A 38-year-old woman and the biological father of a teenager have been arrested following the brutal beating and death of the 17-year-old girl in Nyanga, eastern Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest of Maria Chibego, the victims stepmother, and Chakupiwa Kamupira, her biological father, in connection with the death of Rumbidzai Kamupira on 14 July 2025. In a statement posted on X, the police said the victim was assaulted with open hands and a switch by Maria Chibego after she failed to sleep at home on 13 July. Chakupiwa Kamupira joined in the assault, also using a switch. The victim died upon admission at a local clinic, the statement said. Rumbidzai collapsed and was rushed to a clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police did not disclose where the teenager had been the previous night, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
