Nineteen people who were kidnapped by bandits in Katsina State have regained their freedom following the ongoing peace efforts under the Operation Safe Corridor Initiative.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the development in a post on X on Friday, the victims were released on Thursday morning at Innono Jigo Village in Sabuwa Local Government Area as part of reconciliation efforts with repentant bandits.

The freed victims, who included both men and women from Sabuwa and Funtua Local Government Areas, had spent several weeks in captivity before their release. Among them were Safaratu Basiru, 27, Jamila Auwalu, 22, and 17 others.

Makana revealed that local officials and community leaders received the victims and took them to Haske Private Health Centre in Sabuwa for medical examination and care before they were reunited with their families.

Authorities in the area said the situation is being closely monitored to ensure lasting peace and stability in the affected communities.
