Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has vowed to resist any attempt to rig or manipulate the outcome of the election.
A statement issued on Sunday by the President General of the group, Goodluck Ibem, said the outcome of the election would be determined by performance and not propaganda.
The group stated that “any attempt—by any individual, political party, or institution—to tamper with the electoral process will be met with lawful, collective, and absolute resistance by the people”.
“The era where votes are stolen and mandates imposed against the will of the people is over. Our people are politically conscious, vigilant, and prepared to defend their votes within the ambit of the law.
“Only leaders who have demonstrated credible performance, accountability, and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people will earn the mandate to lead. Those who have used public office to oppress, neglect, or exploit the people must prepare to be voted out decisively,” the statement added.
The youth group called on all eligible citizens across the region to, as a matter of urgency, ensure that they obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
According to the group, the PVC is not just a card but is the “most powerful tool for shaping our future and securing accountable leadership”
“We further urge the electorate to remain peaceful, vigilant, and united before, during, and after the elections, while rejecting any inducement, intimidation, or attempt to compromise their vote.
“Let it be known: power resides with the people. That is the true essence of democracy, and we will defend it.
“COSEYL remains committed to promoting credible elections, good governance, and the collective interest of our people.”
