A political coalition under the banner of the Kogi Alliance for Renewed Hope, KARH, has faulted recent comments made by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West, over his reaction to the pro-Tinubu endorsement rally held in Lokoja last week.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Toba Ogundele and Idris Abubakar, the group’s President and Secretary respectively, KARH described the senator’s remarks as “misguided and inconsistent with the political mood in Kogi State.”
The group dismissed Karimi’s claim that citizens were being “bullied” into supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that the turnout at the rally reflected “a voluntary expression of confidence” in the President’s administration.
“The people of Kogi State are not under any pressure to support President Tinubu. Their continued loyalty comes from visible improvements in infrastructure, fair appointments, and renewed federal attention to the state,” the statement said.
KARH said the rally, attended by community leaders and party supporters across the three senatorial districts, symbolized grassroots unity rather than political manipulation.
“It is disappointing for a serving senator to portray the enthusiasm of his constituents as forced. Many of the ongoing road projects and empowerment initiatives in Kogi are direct outcomes of the current administration’s policies,” the group added.
The coalition noted that residents of the state “understand and appreciate” the developmental direction of the federal government and would not be influenced by political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections.
“From Lokoja to Okene, Kabba to Ankpa, the message remains consistent, Kogi is aligned with President Tinubu’s vision because they can see practical results, not promises,” the statement read.
KARH further appealed to political actors in the state to avoid divisive statements and instead collaborate to sustain Kogi’s relevance within the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Kogi must remain united. Political differences should not overshadow the collective interest of progress and development,” the group stated.
