2027: I’m not joining ADC – Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has clarified his political standing ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that he does not need to "officially join" the African Democratic Congress (ADC).  Speaking during an X Space on Sunday night, December 28, Obi explained that he has been an integral part of the political coalition involving the ADC since its inception.Addressing the rumors of a pending defection, Obi emphasized that his involvement with the party is already established through his role in the broader opposition coalition. I am not joining ADC. I cant re-join what I am already a part of, he stated, dismissing reports that a formal declaration ceremony was necessary for his integration into the party's activities.He further clarified the internal dynamics of the coalition, noting that his presence does not require others to step aside. Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. Ive been part of the coalition from day one, he added, reinforcing that the current focus is on collective effort rather than individual maneuvers.The former governor also took the opportunity to address his relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has also been linked to the ADC coalition in recent months. Obi maintained a stance of diplomatic respect toward his former running mate, stating: We have all agreed to work together and Atiku remains my respected leader.The clarification comes amid intense speculation regarding the formation of a "mega-party" or a unified opposition front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
