The son of late President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf, has announced his intention to contest for a seat at the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to the late Buhari confirmed the move on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday.
In a letter dated April 3 and purportedly signed by him, Yusuf informed stakeholders of his decision to contest the federal legislative seat representing Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter reads.

And in the post on his X page confirming the development, Ahmed noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.
Since his father left office, very little has been heard about Yusuf, making his declaration to contest the house of repsentatives’ seat his most prominent political move to date.
His father was a two time leader, first coming to power as a military Head of State in a coup in 1983 till 1985, and later as a civilian President from 2015 till 2023.
