Nigerian music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has offered a rare glimpse into his personal reflections on fatherhood, fame, and public perception during a recent interview with Voice of Nigeria aired on Wednesday evening.
2Baba admitted that one of the most difficult aspects of his life has been balancing the demands of a high-profile music career with the responsibility of raising his eight children. While he described himself as blessed and grateful for his family, he acknowledged an emotional weight tied to not being as present as he would have liked.
“I have eight kids now. I feel blessed and happy, but the sadness comes from the fact that I haven’t gotten to spend the type of time I should have spent with them collectively,” he said. “They’re amazing, brilliant people. I just wish I was there more. It touches me from all corners.”
2Baba also addressed long-standing public assumptions about his private life, particularly the perception that he is a womaniser. He pushed back against the label, describing himself instead as someone who loves deeply and openly.
“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a womanizer. I like women; I’m just straightforward. But I’m a lover boy. I love hard,” he stated.
The singer further spoke about public commentary surrounding his wife, Natasha, especially claims that she is overly controlling or heavily influences his decisions. According to him, such portrayals often do not reflect the reality of their relationship.
“Everybody has a say in everybody’s business now. Sometimes people say very nasty things. You grow thick skin, but sometimes it gets to you. Reality is reality; she’s a brilliant woman, a strong woman,” he said.
Despite decades on global stages, 2Baba revealed that he remains naturally shy and values quiet moments away from the spotlight. “My profession doesn’t permit me to be shy, but I’m actually a very shy person. Sometimes I just want to be alone and chill. Other times I want to hang out. I like nature; I have my moments,” he added.
