
The Kano State Fire Service has revealed that it responded to a total of 838 emergency calls between January 1 and December 31, 2025, covering all 44 local government areas of the state.
This was contained in a press statement dated January 1, 2026, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the operations were carried out under the leadership of the Director of the Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, through 30 fire stations spread across the state.
“These emergency calls were received from various sectors and communities within the state. The operation involved fire incidents, rescue operations, and false alarm calls.”
Breakdown of emergency calls
The Fire Service disclosed that within the year under review, it recorded: 665 fire incidents, 130 rescue operations and 43 false alarm calls.
The report further showed that 120 lives were lost during the period, as a result of fire outbreaks, road accidents, and incidents involving ponds and wells.
However, the Service also confirmed that 91 lives were successfully saved through its emergency response efforts.
In terms of property, the Fire Service estimated that assets worth N6.47bn were lost to fire and related incidents in 2025.
On the positive side, properties valued at about N15.32bn were saved through timely interventions by firefighters.
Fire statistics compiled by the agency indicated a rise in residential fire incidents, with 376 cases recorded within the year.
As a result, the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents of Kano State to adopt proper fire safety practices and handle fire-related activities responsibly to reduce disasters.
The Director also used the opportunity to congratulate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, the Speaker and lawmakers of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, district heads, Islamic scholars, and the people of Kano State on the New Year 2026.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would bless the state in the new year and protect residents from harm and disasters.
