A.A. Rano Launches Nigeria’s First 24-Hour Unmanned Fuel Stations with SmartPump Technology

Just before dawn, when most Nigerian cities are still half-asleep, a quiet transformation is about to take place at a fuel station.

No attendant steps forward. No handwritten receipt is issued. Instead, a driver pulls in, taps a screen, pays digitally, and watches the pump dispense fuel, precisely measured, transparently delivered, and entirely unmanned.

This is the future A.A. Rano Nigeria Limited says it is bringing to the country.

Founded by oil magnate Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, A.A. Rano has announced the launch of what it describes as Nigeria’s first fully automated, 24-hour fuel stations, marking a bold shift in how fuel is bought and sold across the country.

The initiative blends technology, convenience, and trust, three elements long missing from Nigeria’s fuel retail experience.

At the heart of this innovation is a partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian technology company that has spent years developing digital management systems for the oil and gas industry.

Together, they are introducing SmartPump technology, enabling motorists to refuel, pay electronically, and complete transactions without the presence of station attendants.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, A.A. Rano confirmed that the first batch of these automated stations will become operational within January, with plans to scale the technology across its network of more than 200 retail outlets nationwide.

Beyond convenience, the company says the innovation tackles one of the industry’s most persistent problems: trust. Fuel volume discrepancies, revenue leakages, and opaque operations have long plagued the downstream sector.

By automating the process end-to-end, A.A. Rano believes customers can finally be assured they are getting exactly what they pay for.

For Petrosoft, the project is more than a commercial deal, it is proof that Nigerian technology can solve Nigerian problems.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Joshua Denila, Petrosoft’s chief executive officer, described the rollout as a validation of local innovation built to global standards.

“Our systems are developed locally and built to international standards,” Denila said. “They are designed to improve efficiency, from single stations to large fueling depots.”

As Nigeria’s energy sector navigates deregulation, rising costs, and increasing demand for transparency, the unmanned fuel station represents a quiet but significant disruption.

Whether refueling at midnight or during rush hour, motorists may soon find that the future of fuel retailing is not staffed by people, but powered by smart thinking, local innovation, and technology that never sleeps.
