Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has shared her honest thoughts about marriage and its got people talking. Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Angie Martinez, the Grammy-winning singer said she doesnt believe marriage should be built on feelings alone. According to her, marriage should be something that helps a person grow and become better, not just a decision based on emotions. Tems explained that she sees marriage as something that can go through difficult phases, and people need to enter it with that understanding. She also made it clear that having a God-fearing partner is non-negotiable for her. My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you dont have anyone that you answer to? she said. If youre not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives? She went further to question the idea of commitment without accountability. If youre the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want, she added. According to the singer, marriage goes beyond love and should be about compatibility and personal growth. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldnt be about only love, its about compatibility.
