The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has disbanded all the tactical teams within the Command and inaugurated a new set of officers.

The Command said that the new unit is headed by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu, a seasoned officer with over 15 years of service experience and notable capacity, explaining that the new officers underwent comprehensive professional orientation program.

The Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who made this known in a press statement, said that the reforms were in line with the vision and directive of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu on professionalism and accountability.

She said that the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, is tasked with handling all violent crimes across the State, noting that it would also be supported by a civilian oversight board comprising representatives from the Abia State traditional rulers council, human rights, Nigerian Bar Association, Amnesty International, among others.

The Command, which said it had provided a befitting operational facility for the Unit strategically located at Orji Uzor Kalu Bridge in Aba, said the facility met the required standards, including proper detention conditions that respect the rights of suspects, with a liaison office in Umuahia to enhance coordination.

“The Commissioner of Police and his management team delivered lectures emphasizing professionalism and zero tolerance for corruption.

“Officers were urged to shun all forms of impunity, extortion, involvement in civil matters and cases outside the Unit’s mandate. They were also cautioned against unlawful detention and arrests by proxy”, the Abia Police Command said.
