Abiodun’s govt has positioned Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial heartbeat – APC Chieftain

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, Tolu Bankole, has opined that the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, is the best the state has ever had.

According to him, the Abiodun-led administration has transformed and elevated the state as the industrial heartbeat of Nigeria through visionary policymaking, fiscal discipline and a calm, inclusive leadership style.

Bankole, who spoke during his end-of-year chat with the media, said the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has grown from ₦100.7 billion in 2021 to ₦146.0 billion in 2023, adding that there was also over 150 per cent GDP growth, rising from ₦2.9 trillion in 2021 to ₦7.3 trillion in 2024.

The APC chieftain pointed out that the administration had also enhanced the learning environment, empowered farmers, rehabilitated schools, recruited teachers, and provided affordable housing through site-and-service schemes.

He said, “Ogun’s IGR, which stood at about ₦70 billion in 2019 and declined to ₦50.6 billion in 2020, surged to ₦100.7 billion in 2021. By 2023, the state recorded ₦146.0 billion, demonstrating unprecedented fiscal expansion and robust revenue reforms. This performance far surpasses pre-Abiodun years, when the state struggled with lower and inconsistent revenue flows.

“Ogun has also recorded over 150 per cent GDP growth, rising from ₦2.9 trillion in 2021 to ₦7.3 trillion in 2024, reflecting targeted industrial policies and the governor’s commitment to economic diversification.

“Abiodun’s administration has deliberately positioned Ogun as the industrial heartbeat of Nigeria. Through investor-friendly policies and infrastructural support, the state has attracted major manufacturing players while expanding opportunities in mining, agro-processing and technology.

“Over 600 kilometres of roads have been constructed or rehabilitated to ease movement, boost trade and support industrial expansion. Roads such as Denro–Ishashi–Akute and several township networks have restored mobility to communities once cut off by neglected infrastructure,” Bankole stressed.

He pointed out that, in addition to physical development, the governor has kept Ogun peaceful for six years, asserting that this has improved governance and made it possible for party structures to coexist peacefully.

According to Bankole, the governor has set a new governance benchmark in the state through prudent resource management, strategic partnerships and long-term planning that centres on the welfare of citizens.

“Dapo Abiodun is, without doubt, the best governor Ogun State has ever had, and his legacy will serve as a reference point for good governance, transformational leadership and inclusive development.”

However, he urged residents of the state, the political class and citizens to support the governor in 2026 and beyond, arguing that his legacy will be a model for inclusive growth, transformational leadership and excellent governance.
