Abuja court remands man over alleged threat to his mother’s life

A Magistrate Court in Wuse, Abuja, has remanded a 27-year-old man, Chidera Njoku, at a correctional center for allegedly threatening his mothers life. The defendant, who resides in Kabusa Village, Abuja, faces six counts of charges: threat to life, assault, theft, extortion, mischief, and criminal intimidation, to which he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, C. C. Okafor, informed the court that the defendants mother, Mrs. Ngozi Njoku, reported the incident at the Kabusa Police Station on August 21.  Okafor stated that the defendant stole several items belonging to his mother and behaved in a way that threatened the lives of both his mother and sister.  He listed the stolen items as a cellphone valued at N140000, a 10kg gas cylinder, five liters of oil, and six bags of charcoal.  The prosecutor said that when confronted by his sister, the defendant reacted violently and beat her up.He used a motor engine belt on his sister and inflicted serious injuries on her.
