Speaking during the session, Inyama confirmed she had undergone the procedure as a child. Responding to a question from Daddy Freeze, she said, ‘’Yes I was because I grew up in the village with my grandmother. That is the best thing they did for me. I swear to God because if I say I am not going to have s3x, I will not and that is the power I have as a woman.”
She explained that the experience shaped her personal discipline, particularly regarding sexual behaviour, adding that it prevents her from being promiscuous in nature. The actress also recounted the circumstances of the procedure, noting that she was about five or six years old at the time and lost consciousness due to the pain.
Despite her position, health experts and international organisations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), classify female circumcision as a harmful practice with no medical benefits. It is associated with severe complications such as chronic pain, infections, childbirth risks and long-term psychological trauma. The practice is illegal in several countries, including Nigeria, although enforcement varies.
Inyama’s remarks have triggered renewed attention on the persistence of FGM in some communities, where it is often linked to cultural beliefs around sexuality, purity and social norms. Advocacy groups continue to call for increased awareness, stronger legal enforcement and community-level interventions to end the practice.
When asked if she would allow her daughter to be circumcised, Inyama said she would not take sole responsibility for the decision, stating that it would be left to the child’s father.
