Pensioners under the Adamawa State Government have started a verification exercise that will culminate in the payment of their outstanding pension totaling N8 billion.
The pensioners are upbeat that they will start receiving the backlog of the arrears of their pension after the conclusion of the verification that started Tuesday.
The Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Pensioners Union, Ahmed Zambwa, expressed the optimism in a news interview that the government will provide the funds immediately after the exercise scheduled to last a week.
DAILY POST recalls that about three months ago, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri promised to offset the backlog of pension arrears to the tune of N8 billion, N5 billion of which will go to state government pensioners and N3 billion for local government pensioners.
The pensioners had started getting upset about the promise when the ongoing verification was announced, thus raising fresh hopes.
“Payment is expected to begin immediately after the verification exercise which commences today. We are optimistic that Governor Fintiri will make good his promise once the verification is over,” the pensioners’ spokesman said.
