Adamawa South Senator Yaroe defects to ADC

The senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, Binos Yaroe, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has confirmed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as his preferred new party.

Senator Binos told newsmen in Yola that he chose the ADC rather than the All Progressives Congress (APC) to encourage opposition and multi-party politics.

He said he also thought it appropriate to pitch a tent with his mentor, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He added that Atiku has played significant roles in his political career, providing remarkable support when he first contested for the Senate in 2019 and when he vied for his second term in 2023.

Atiku, incidentally, comes from Binos’s constituency, Atiku being from Jada and Binos from Mayo Belwa.

He stressed, at the press briefing organised principally for him to announce his new party, that he refused to follow Governor Ahmadu Fintiri into the APC, choosing instead to align with Atiku in the ADC.

He reiterated that his decision was guided by political conviction, loyalty, and a commitment to preserving democratic opposition in Nigeria.

“I first consulted my supporters across the nine local government areas in my constituency. The PDP has become fractured into several factions, and nobody can confidently say which one is legitimate,” Binos said.

Binos, who wishes to return to the Senate in 2027, said he left the PDP because remaining there posed a serious political risk.

“For anyone who intends to contest elections in 2027, it would be dangerous to remain in such a situation,” he said.

Yaroe recalled that after formally resigning his PDP membership on February 19, he continued consultations with political allies and other opposition lawmakers before arriving at the decision to join the ADC.

According to him, nine senators from different opposition parties, including the Labour Party, APGA and PDP, jointly decided to defect to the ADC as part of efforts to strengthen opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
