ADC faults Tinubu’s Argungu trip, says insecurity claims lives daily

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu for attending the Argungu Fishing Festival at a time the party says insecurity is worsening across the country.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the President’s appearance at the festival coincided with grim security developments nationwide, noting that credible reports indicate that nearly 1,300 Nigerians were killed within a span of 41 days, while hundreds of others—among them children and nursing mothers—remain in captivity.

“We are concerned that at a time of rising insecurity, the President was attending a fishing festival while innocent Nigerians continue to suffer the tragic brunt of terror,” the party said.

The ADC further drew attention to a video it said was allegedly released by terrorists in connection with recent abductions in Kaiama Local Government Area, arguing that the footage raises questions about official figures on the number of victims kidnapped.

According to the party, escalating insurgent activity along the Kaiama–Kainji corridor, which links to Oyo State, poses a broader security risk that could heighten vulnerabilities across parts of the North Central and South West regions.

The ADC urged the federal government to intensify efforts to rescue abducted victims, carry out a comprehensive security audit of the corridor, and strengthen coordination among Kwara State, Niger State and Oyo State.

The party also called for consistent and transparent public communication, stressing the need to counter terrorist propaganda and restore public confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives and property.
