The Labour Party (LP) is recording fresh gains in Benue State following a wave of defections from other political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes following the defection of the member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, from the APC to the Labour Party.
DAILY POST gathered that Agbese’s move is linked to internal challenges within the APC in the state.
He is also said to have moved to the LP alongside a large number of supporters drawn from the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and ADC across his constituency and beyond, including a ward chairman, party secretary and women leader.
Comrade Tony Christopher Ochube, popularly known as Comrade 1010, has also joined the Labour Party.
In a letter dated March 22, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the Labour Party, Ichama Ward II in Okpokwu Local Government Area, Ochube formally announced his decision to join the party.
“I hereby write to formally notify you of my decision to join the Labour Party (LP) as a committed member of Ichama Ward II, Okpokwu Local Government Area, Benue State,” he stated.
He explained that his decision followed his resignation from the ADC after consultations with his supporters and political associates.
“This decision follows my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), after careful consultation with my supporters, stakeholders, and political associates, all in pursuit of a more effective platform to serve the good people of Okpokwu Constituency,” he added.
Ochube said his decision to join the Labour Party was based on its ideals and vision, which he noted align with his commitment to good governance, grassroots development, and empowerment.
“I am pleased to identify with the ideals and vision of the Labour Party, which strongly align with my personal commitment to good governance, grassroots development, youth and women empowerment, and transparent leadership,” he said.
