Former Super Eagles player, Odion Ighalo, said Victor Osimhen missed some huge chances during Nigeria’s 2-0 victory against Algeria on Saturday.
He, however, noted that the Galatasaray player is not selfish and is the kind of forward that every team wants to have.
Osimhen has scored four goals and provided two assists for the Super Eagles at the tournament.
Only Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman has made more goal contributions than Osimhen in the Africa Cup of Nations so far.
Ighalo said that even though Osimhen sometimes misses obvious scoring chances, his overall impact is still very good because he also helps create chances for his teammates.
“Like I always say, he missed a few important opportunities,” Ighalo said on SuperSport.
“He should have scored around three goals [against Algeria on Saturday], but he played really well.
“He scored one goal and provided an assist for Akor Adams. He’s a forward that every team wants because he’s not selfish.
“He works hard for the team, he provides chances, he scores goals, and he runs past defenders, so I’m happy with what I saw today[on Saturday], and it will take a little more to beat Morocco.”
Osimhen’s goal against Algeria brought his total to 35, just two short of matching Rashidi Yekini’s record as Nigeria’s all-time top scorer.
