Head coach of Senegal, Pape Thiaw, has sent a message to fans of Senegal who opened a donation account to help cover his AFCON 2025 sanction.
Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw has appealed to supporters to stop raising money on his behalf after disciplinary action was taken against him by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the wake of the AFCON 2025 final.
Thiaw, who guided Senegal to the title in Morocco, received a five-game ban along with a $100,000 fine. CAF said the punishment was for “unsporting behaviour” and conduct deemed damaging to the image of the game.
The decision followed dramatic moments during the final, when Thiaw instructed his players to leave the field in protest over a late refereeing call. The match later resumed, with Senegal eventually clinching victory after extra time.
Addressing fans, Thiaw expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received since the sanctions were announced. However, he urged supporters to discontinue any fundraising efforts in his name, encouraging them instead to channel their generosity toward people and causes in real need.
