After failed governorship bid, ex-Dep Senate President, Omo-Agege, seeks return to upper chamber

A former Deputy Senate President of the 9th National Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Thursday, submitted his nomination form to contest at a chance to return to the Senate.

The former lawmaker is seeking a return to the upper legislative chamber on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election to represent Delta Central Senatorial District.

In a statement after submitting the form at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja, in the company of political associates, Omo-Agege said the move was in line with the Nigerian Constitution and the guidelines of his party.

He added that “As we gear up for the 2027 elections, I pledge to conduct a campaign centred on issues and peace, truly reflecting the hopes and aspirations of our people.

Omo-Agege is hoping to unseat Senator Ede Dafinone, the incumbent occupant of the Delta Central seat.

Omo-Agege is seeking to return to the Senate, after he failed in his bid to become governor of Delta State in 2023. He lost to Sheriff Oberovwori who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in that election.

Oberovwori recently dumped the PDP for the APC, and is seeking a second term in office, a decision that must have forced Omo-Agege to rethink his guber ambition and opt for a return to the Senate.
