The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one person in connection with the deaths of a gospel singer and three other individuals found dead inside a music studio in Ajah, Lagos State.
The deceased were identified as gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and popular blogger Matthew Awosanya, widely known as JoesTv. Their bodies were discovered on Wednesday in a studio situated within the HFP Shopping Complex along the Abraham Adesanya axis of Ajah.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the matter, which was first reported at the Ajah Police Division, has now been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for detailed investigation.
“The incident was initially reported at the Ajah Division but was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). One suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing, while we await the autopsy report,” Adebisi said.
Police sources disclosed that the case was brought to their attention by the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, who explained that the victims were members of a gospel music group invited to perform at a birthday praise programme organised by his wife.

According to the police account, the performers finished their recording session late on Tuesday night and opted to remain in the studio overnight. When the studio owner returned the next morning, he reportedly found the door locked from the inside. After forcing it open, the four individuals were discovered lifeless.
Detectives who examined the scene reportedly observed no visible signs of violence on the bodies. The victims were later pronounced dead at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, before their remains were transferred to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and emotional reactions, particularly across social media platforms, with friends, colleagues, and members of the gospel music community calling for a comprehensive investigation and justice for the victims.
