The member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue State, Terseer Ugbor, has formally withdrawn his ₦1 billion defamation suit against the Gov.Hyacinth Alia, and two of his media aides.
Ugbor said the decision was made to end distractions and allow him to focus on his legislative responsibilities.
The suit, marked MHC/422/24, had also listed the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula, and Principal Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Mr. Isaac Uzaan, as co-defendants.
Filed on 31st October 2024, the case was delayed for several months due to the prolonged strike by the Benue State Judiciary.
Ugbor noted that despite the commencement of the suit, the defendants had not filed any defense.
He explained that although the lack of defense could have resulted in judgment in his favour, he chose to withdraw the matter following appeals from family and friends.
“My decision to withdraw the suit is entirely to avoid distractions and to concentrate fully on delivering the dividends of democracy to the good people of Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency.”
Ugbor stressed that his decision was not politically motivated and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, whom he described as a guiding figure.
