Anambra ADC chairman confirms massive influx into party since Peter Obi’s entry

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Anambra State, Mr Patrick Obianyo, has confirmed that since the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, joined the party on December 31, there has been a huge influx of persons into the party.

Obianyo disclosed this on Saturday during a political event organised by the party to receive Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, alongside over 200 of his supporters.

Speaking at the event, which was held at the home of the decamping politician, who was also the Chief Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Obianyo said party officials have not had any rest.

“There have been requests in our offices every day for us to visit and receive politicians into our party since Mr Peter Obi joined us. We are here today in Ifitedunu, in Dunukofia Local Government Area, to receive Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu. Tomorrow we will be in another location, and it has continued like that for over a month now.

“We are urging new members to go to their wards and register. It is true that there is online registration, but we encourage our members to go to their wards where they will be physically captured and recognised as members.

“Though our membership cards are being depleted daily by new members, I want to assure you that very soon we will conduct a membership revalidation and introduce better features in our cards. Even if the entire 200 million Nigerians join us, we will have enough cards for all.”

Ezeudu, who was received into the party, told members that he had never felt such an urgent need to join a political party as he did in joining the ADC, saying he had seen the zeal of the people to change the country.

He said: “today is my own Pentecost, including all my supporters, because we have been baptised into the ADC.

“I have never felt a stronger need to join a political party than my entry into the ADC today because it is very obvious that the APC has failed us, and we need to buckle up to save the country from finally being torpedoed.

“I want to announce that we in the ADC are desperate to change Nigeria, and having taken time to study the configuration of the country, I can tell you that a new Nigeria is still possible. That is why I am joining the ADC to help effect this change.”

The defection event was attended by many top members of the ADC, including the party’s deputy governorship candidate in last year’s election, Dr Ndubuisi Nwobu, as well as chieftains of the party such as Prof. Chinyere Okunna, Dr Chris Asoukwu, and others.
