The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have issued a seven-day strike notice to the Federal Government, effective from Monday, September 15, 2025.
In a joint letter addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, and released to the media on Monday, the unions accused the government of failing to implement agreements reached in 2009, as well as neglecting to pay outstanding allowances and salary arrears.
Signed by SSANU National President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi, the statement warned that members would be left with ‘no option than to resume strike’ if the government failed to act within the ultimatum period.

The unions also accused the government of excluding many of their members from the ₦50 billion disbursed as earned allowances, while highlighting that the promised 25–35% salary increases for non-teaching staff have not materialized.
The notice has heightened concerns across university campuses, with stakeholders urging the Federal Government to move swiftly to avoid fresh disruptions to academic calendars.
