Another Nigerian soldier has taken to social media to pour out his frustration over what he described as the government’s continuous neglect of military personnel, especially in contrast to the lavish treatment given to Nigeria’s female football team, the Super Falcons.
In a viral video shared on Thursday, the distressed soldier compared the sacrifice of soldiers on the battlefield to the recent cash rewards and gifts announced for the Super Falcons, who were each given N160 million and three-bedroom flats following their WAFCON victory.
In the video footage, the soldier showed the deplorable living quarters where soldiers on peace keeping missions stay while protecting Nigerians and fighting terrorists.
He compared the meagre salaries soldiers receive and questioned the fairness of the system, noting that even after 35 years of service, a soldier might not receive anything close to what the players earned after just one tournament.
He continued by describing the poor living conditions in military barracks.
“House wey soldier dey sleep for barrack, even senator dog no fit enter that room,” he said, highlighting the dilapidated state of military accommodations.
