The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent remarks on hunger and hardship in the country, accusing him of stoking public anger and attempting to provoke unrest.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the allegation on Monday night while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He described Atiku’s comments as “incendiary” and politically motivated, arguing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain was seeking relevance after multiple failed bids for the presidency.
“Atiku appears completely out of touch with the realities in Nigeria,” Morka said. “By his statements, he seems to be inciting a revolution. It is disappointing that a man who served as vice president for eight years and failed to address poverty or hunger would now accuse this administration of insensitivity.”
Atiku, in a statement issued earlier by his media aide, Paul Ibe, had raised alarm over what he described as worsening hunger under President Bola Tinubu’s government. He warned that mounting frustration among citizens could trigger widespread unrest if urgent measures were not taken.

Citing historical precedents such as the French Revolution, the 1917 Russian Revolution, and the Arab Spring, Atiku argued that hunger and neglect often fuel social upheavals. He also drew parallels with Nigeria’s 2020 EndSARS protests, which he claimed were partly driven by economic hardship.
“The poor are increasingly dying of hunger, while many others live at the mercy of ill-advised government policies,” Atiku stated, adding that Tinubu’s economic reforms lack a “human face.”
The APC, however, dismissed his position as hypocritical, maintaining that the administration is focused on implementing policies to stabilise the economy and improve citizens’ welfare.
