APC Digital Force DG Klinsmann quits party, opposes Omokri’s ambassadorial nomination

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Anambra State and Director General of the APC Digital Force, Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, has resigned from the ruling party, citing what he described as growing contradictions between his personal values and the party’s current direction.

Klinsmann, a Stockholm-based pharmacist from Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, announced his resignation in a letter dated March 7, 2026, addressed to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, through the party chairman of Umudioka Ward 2 in Dunukofia.

He said the resignation takes immediate effect and also confirmed that he had stepped down as Director General of the APC Digital Force, ending his formal association with the party.

“It is with a heavy heart, profound reflection, and deep sense of duty to my conscience that I write to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately,” Klinsmann wrote.

According to him, the decision followed a period of deep introspection about the trajectory of the party and the state of governance in Nigeria.

In the letter, Klinsmann said the decision was based on principles rather than personal grievances, adding that his beliefs in justice, equity, accountability, and national unity were no longer aligned with what he described as the prevailing direction of the party.

“The inconsistencies in policy implementation, frequent somersaults on critical national issues, and a growing departure from the ideals that once drew many of us to the party have made it impossible for me to continue in good conscience,” he stated.

He also raised concerns about the economic impact of recent government policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira, which he argued had worsened the cost-of-living crisis for many Nigerians.

According to him, the removal of subsidies without adequate social protections had intensified hardship for vulnerable citizens.

Klinsmann further cited Nigeria’s persistent security challenges as another reason for his resignation.

He said the continued incidents of banditry, insurgency, kidnappings, and communal violence across the country had weakened public confidence in the government’s ability to guarantee safety.

The former APC digital strategist also expressed concern over the handling of tensions in the South-East, particularly the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

He argued that the government should consider political dialogue and conciliatory measures as part of efforts to restore stability in the region.

Klinsmann said the immediate trigger for his resignation was his opposition to the reported nomination of Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

“The breaking point came earlier this morning when I sent a formal protest letter to the President of Mexico regarding the designation of Mr. Reno Omokri as Nigeria’s ambassador to that country,” he wrote.

He accused Omokri of making divisive remarks against the Igbo ethnic group, arguing that appointing such a figure to represent Nigeria abroad could undermine national unity.

“I have repeatedly and publicly kicked against Mr. Omokri’s disparaging insults and vicious attacks on the Igbo ethnic group,” Klinsmann said.

“Appointing him to represent Nigeria abroad, particularly in Mexico where a significant number of Nigerians reside, poses a real and immediate threat to their safety, dignity and well-being.”

Despite his criticisms, Klinsmann said he held no personal grudges against the party or its leadership.

“Do understand that I hold no personal grudges against the party, its leadership, or any individual. This decision stems purely from deeply held personal values and an unwavering commitment to justice and equity,” he stated.

He also expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had within the party, noting that his years in the APC helped broaden his understanding of Nigeria’s political and socio-economic landscape.

“Over the past few years, I have had the immense privilege of working alongside dedicated patriots within the APC,” he wrote.
“I am deeply grateful to the party for the opportunities it afforded me to contribute to national discourse and policy engagement.”

Klinsmann also acknowledged members of the Ex-NANS Leaders Forum, whom he described as “brilliant intellectuals and passionate activists” whose ideas inspired his continued belief in Nigeria’s potential.

Although he did not disclose his next political move, Klinsmann said he remained committed to contributing to Nigeria’s development through policy advocacy and constructive engagement.

“As I step away, I look forward with cautious optimism to what the future holds,” he said.
“I pray that Nigeria finds its path to true progress, unity and prosperity for all.”

His resignation is expected to spark discussions within political circles in Anambra State and beyond, particularly given his role as one of the APC’s most visible digital advocates.

As Director General of the APC Digital Force, Klinsmann had been active in online political debates and policy discussions, mobilising digital support for the party’s initiatives.

With his departure now formalised, attention is likely to turn to whether he will align with another political platform in the coming months.
