APC dismisses Aregbesola’s 2027 remarks as ’empty boasts’

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would unseat President Bola Tinubu and take control of Lagos State in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Sunday, the APC’s Lagos spokelsman, Seye Oladejo, described Aregbesola’s remarks as “empty boasts” and his political mission as “suicidal,” given his long history of political prominence within the APC, where he previously served as commissioner, governor, and minister.

Aregbesola, who recently joined the ADC, made the declaration during a gathering in Lagos on Saturday, where Moshood Salvador, leader of the Labour Party’s Conscience Forum, formally defected to the ADC with his supporters. He had urged party members to adopt a “ten over ten” grassroots mobilisation strategy, which he claimed would guarantee the party’s success at both state and federal levels.

“With our resolve, it won’t be difficult at all to take over the seat of power,” Aregbesola said. “We will surely meet at Aso Rock Villa and produce the next president of the country.”

Reacting, Oladejo criticised the former minister for what he described as “betrayal” of the party that elevated him, saying Aregbesola had traded his position as a “landlord” in the progressive fold for that of a “tenant” in a “mushroom party.”

“From Lagos commissioner to Osun governor and then minister, Aregbe ate, dined, and thrived on the APC table. Today, in a desperate bid for relevance, he is busy setting fire to the same house that made him. That is political suicide of the highest order,” Oladejo stated.

He argued that the APC’s performance in governance would continue to secure voter support, dismissing the ADC as lacking both substance and electoral strength. According to him, the party’s poor outing in recent by-elections showed it was unprepared for meaningful competition in 2027.

“In 2027, Lagosians and Nigerians will once again choose consistency over confusion, credibility over contradictions, and competence over comedy,” Oladejo said. “The APC will be rewarded for delivery, while Aregbe and his ADC will be reminded that betrayal is not a political strategy.”

He concluded that Aregbesola’s defection and statements amounted to a “public obituary” of his political relevance, insisting that the APC remained the dominant force in both Lagos and at the federal level.
