APC dismisses crisis claims in Enugu, labels reports of resignations ‘false narrative’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has rejected reports of internal discord, insisting that allegations of mass defections and unpaid delegates are unfounded and politically motivated.

In a statement released on Sunday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Uche Obute, described the claims as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine the party’s growing influence in the state.

He characterised the reports as a “false narrative” and further dismissed them as “concocted stories” aimed at distracting the party from its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Obute maintained that there had been no complaints from delegates regarding stipends following the party’s recent national convention, contrary to circulating reports.

Reacting to claims that some members were leaving the party over alleged marginalisation, the APC insisted that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah had instead strengthened its foothold in the state.

According to the party, Enugu has effectively become a strong base, with key political office holders aligning with its structure, including members of the National and State Assemblies as well as local government leadership across all 17 councils.

Highlighting its internal cohesion, the statement noted, “The Governor is widely known for his inclusive leadership style, carrying along both members of the old APC bloc and new entrants into the party.”

The party also addressed concerns about the position of longstanding members, stating that individuals from the “old bloc” continue to hold strategic roles. It cited figures such as Oby Ajih and Ben Nwoye as examples.

Reaffirming its inclusive structure, the statement added, “Both the old and new blocs are fully accommodated at all levels of party leadership, from the wards to the local government areas and the state structure.”

The party further stressed its unity under the leadership of state chairman Martin Chukwunweike, urging members and the public to ignore what it described as misleading reports.

It concluded by expressing confidence that no amount of “sponsored misinformation” would derail its momentum or its ambition to consolidate political dominance in the state ahead of upcoming elections.
