Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has taken a swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as “Nigeria’s incomparable political wanderer” following his recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku, a founding member of the PDP and its presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, formally announced his departure from the party in a letter dated July 14, 2025. The letter was addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Jada, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Reacting to the development in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Morka criticised Atiku’s decision, calling it yet another example of the former vice-president’s recurring pattern of political defection.
“Yet again, Atiku uses his revolving door out of the PDP for the third time… all in his desperate but ever elusive search for the presidential Golden Fleece,” Morka wrote.
He accused the 78-year-old politician of prioritising personal ambition over party loyalty and institution-building.
“Atiku is driven only by his selfish and obsessive presidential ambition… never willing to put in the work to build his party or solve its internal crises,” the APC spokesman said. “But claims a birthright entitlement to the presidential ticket of his party to the exclusion of all others.”
Morka further described Atiku as the “weakest link in Nigeria’s partisan democracy,” arguing that his frequent party switches reflect a lack of ideological commitment and undermine democratic consolidation.
Concluding his statement with a sharp rebuke, Morka said: “Congratulations, Nigeria’s incomparable political wanderer.”
Atiku’s latest departure from the PDP comes amid ongoing efforts to form a unified opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Alongside political figures such as Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and others, Atiku is now aligned with a new coalition that has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.
