Clement Jimbo, the member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has denied reports suggesting he intends to defect to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
This was disclosed in a statement posted by his media team on facebook, which described the reports as “malicious and libelous”.
In the statement, Jimbo emphasized that he remains a committed member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Ordinarily, such a baseless claim would not deserve a response,” the statement said. “However, in order to prevent the deliberate distortion of facts and protect the hard-earned reputation of Hon. Jimbo, it has become necessary to set the record straight.”
The statement highlighted Jimbo’s recent participation in APC activities.
“Only recently, on March 3, 2026, he led APC delegates from Abak Local Government Area to participate actively in the State Congress of the party held at the Uyo Township Stadium. Does this look like the action of a man plotting to abandon his party?” the statement asked.
The lawmaker’s office further asserted that Jimbo has never met with ADC officials or discussed defection in any capacity.
The statement added, “The purveyors of this falsehood should be bold enough to present evidence of such a meeting if it ever occurred.
“Why would Hon. Clement Jimbo abandon a party he helped to nurture and strengthen when it was in opposition in Akwa Ibom State?
“He stood firm and worked tirelessly since he joined APC several years ago and further staked his conviction in the party by contesting the National Assembly elections in 2023 on the platform of the party.”
The statement also highlighted his role in mobilizing support that contributed to the APC’s victory in the 2023 general elections within his constituency.
“A man who invested so much energy, time, and political capital in the party cannot logically be expected to abandon it at a time when it is consolidating its gains,” the statement read.
Looking ahead, Jimbo said he is focused on strengthening the APC ahead of key party activities.
The statement concluded with a firm warning to those spreading false information.
“While Hon. Jimbo, as a public officer, welcomes constructive criticism, he will not fold his arms and allow desperate individuals to engage in blackmail and character assassination simply to advance their narrow political ambitions.”
