Armed bandits attacked Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday, killing one forest guard identified only as Samuel.

The attack on the community occurred around 1 p.m. but met stiff resistance from a team of forest guards, local hunters, and vigilantes, a credible security source who preferred anonymity told DAILY POST on Sunday.

According to sources, forest guards in Koro had reportedly received intelligence about a potential attack by armed bandits, but the operatives were ambushed.

“One forest guard, identified as Samuel, was shot during the ambush and has been confirmed dead.

“His corpse was taken to Egbetokun Hospital in Kogi State, as the town shares a common boundary with Kwara State.”

Reports also indicated that over five motorcycles were set ablaze by the armed attackers.

Following the incident, Koro has been placed on high alert as local hunters, vigilantes, and forest guards remain on standby to ward off any further attacks on the community.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security authorities.

Communities sharing boundaries with Koro, including Egbe, Ogbe, and Oke-Ere in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, have also been urged to exercise caution.

Efforts to reach security agencies proved abortive at the time of this report.
