Armed bandits return to Eruku community, kidnap farmer days after release of Church members

Armed bandits on Sunday launched a fresh attack on Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State and abducted one farmer identified as Annas Aasanru.

Sunday’s attack on the community was the second time in a month and occurred barely a week after the release of 38 abducted church worshippers who are still under medical observation by the state government, after five days in captivity.

According to a community leader, who spoke under anonymity, the attackers suspected to be Fulani/Bororo men numbering about four, stormed a farm along the road leading to Koro.

“Armed with cutlasses and AK-47 rifles, the assailants invaded the farmland and kidnapped a man identified as Annas Aasanru, a native of Eruku, before escaping into the bush.”

The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the development to DAILY POST in Ilorin on Sunday.

She said “Police operatives from Eruku Division, received a complaint at about 1400hours on Sunday that four armed men invaded a farm along Koro road, Eruku at about 1230hours and abducted one Mr Aasanru (m) aged 40.

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police, military personnel and local vigilante members was immediately deployed to the area for an intensive search and rescue operation,” the spokesperson added.

The police command assured the public that all necessary efforts are underway to secure the return of the abducted victim.
