ASUU ends strike in Taraba State University after N500m deal

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has finally suspended its indefinite strike action, bringing relief to students and staff of the institution.

The strike, which began on February 18, 2026, was called off following a successful agreement between the union, its non-academic counterparts, and the Taraba State Government.

Chairman of ASUU in the university, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, confirmed the development on Wednesday, stating that the decision was reached after productive negotiations.

According to him, both academic and non-academic staff had earlier accepted a N500 million offer by Governor Agbu Kefas to resolve the industrial dispute.

“Yes, the strike is officially suspended. We have reached a healthy agreement with the state government this afternoon, and the indefinite strike action embarked upon since February 18 is hereby suspended,” Mbave said.

He commended Governor Kefas and other stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the resumption of academic activities at Taraba State University.

Mbave, however, urged the state government to remain committed to the terms of the agreement to avoid further disruptions to the academic calendar.

The suspension of the strike is expected to pave the way for the immediate resumption of lectures and normal academic activities at the university.
