Atiku camp dismisses Fayose’s claims of secret deal with Gov Makinde

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied allegations by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, that Atiku was engaged in secret political negotiations with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Fayose had alleged in a statement posted on his verified X account that Makinde planned to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in exchange for being named Atiku’s running mate in the 2027 elections. He claimed the two met in Minna, Niger State, in what he described as a carefully arranged meeting.

Responding in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, dismissed the claims as “reckless and malicious fabrication.” He described Fayose’s post as a “shameless concoction” and insisted Atiku had not engaged in any form of political bargaining.

Shaibu specifically refuted allegations of negotiations over a vice-presidential ticket, ₦10 billion contributions, zoning deals, delegate guarantees, or any clandestine meeting in Dubai. “There were no negotiations over vice-presidential tickets. There were no discussions about ₦10 billion contributions. There were no zoning manipulations. There were no delegate-delivery guarantees. And there is certainly no clandestine ‘Dubai meeting’ on any such agenda,” he said.

He accused Fayose of fabricating insider fiction to mislead and provoke controversy, stressing that Atiku’s political engagements are broad-based and national in scope, not transactional.

Shaibu urged Nigerians to disregard the claims, maintaining that Atiku does not engage in secretive or self-serving politics.
