The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Iliya Damagum, on Friday, described the resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party as a familiar and recurring development in its history.
Atiku dumped the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the opposition coalition adopted platform for the 2027 general election, on Wednesday.
Damagum, who addressed journalists in Abuja, said the PDP was neither shocked nor overly concerned about Atiku’s exit.
He stressed that the party was already accustomed to the ex-Vice President’s repeated exits and returns over the years.

The chairman stated that Atiku’s movement aligned with a historical pattern, adding that the party viewed his latest resignation as part of his political strategy rather than a final exit.
Damagum noted that the party’s calm response stemmed from the confidence it had in its resilience or skepticism over the permanence of Atiku’s decision.
“This is not the first time; we’re expecting him (Atiku) back,” the chairman stated calmly.
