Baba Ijesha sparks fresh controversy, claims s3xual assault case was ‘set up’ in new song

Convicted Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has stirred renewed controversy after releasing a song in which he challenges the circumstances surrounding the s3xual assault case that led to his imprisonment.

In the track titled “Eniwaye Daran,” uploaded to his YouTube channel on Friday, the actor presents his version of events leading to his arrest in April 2021, claiming he was lured into a trap by a former colleague.

The song revisits the widely publicised case that shocked the Nigerian entertainment industry and sparked nationwide outrage after comedienne Damilola Adekoya, known as Princess, accused the actor of s3xually assaulting her 14-year-old foster daughter.

In the lyrics, Baba Ijesha alleges that he was invited to Princess’ residence under the pretext of discussing a film role and sharing a meal. He claims he was told to rehearse a scene with a young girl while waiting for food that had supposedly been prepared for him.

According to the actor, what he believed to be a movie rehearsal suddenly escalated when a group of people allegedly stormed the room and accused him of misconduct.

He further claimed that several individuals conspired against him and expressed bitterness over what he described as betrayal by colleagues and industry figures.

The actor also used the song to reflect on his time in prison, saying the experience significantly altered his life while warning fans to be cautious about whom they trust.

Baba Ijesha was arrested in April 2021 after a video showing him in a compromising situation with the minor surfaced online, triggering intense public outrage and calls for justice.

The case drew widespread attention across Nigeria, with several celebrities and activists speaking out. Actress Iyabo Ojo was among the most vocal voices advocating accountability during the legal proceedings.

Following the trial, the Lagos State Special Offences Court convicted the actor on charges related to s3xual assault involving a minor, leading to his imprisonment.

His latest song has now revived public discussion around the case, years after the incident first shook Nollywood and ignited national debate about child protection and accountability in the entertainment industry.
