Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has called for strict measures against informants who provide intelligence to bandits, stating that they are often complicit in terrorist attacks.

Bago made the appeal during a visit to the Emir of Borgu, Alh. Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, at his palace in Borgu, to commiserate over the kidnapping of students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.

“Informants are mostly behind terrorist attacks and stiffer measures against them would help in addressing insecurity,” he observed.

The governor emphasised that security agents are working with the state government to rescue the kidnapped children, while urging citizens to provide useful information to aid these efforts.

He, however, cautioned against religious bigotry and intolerance, advocating for harmony among the populace.

In his response, the Emir of Borgu, Alh. Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, thanked the governor for the visit and described him as a passionate leader who cares deeply for his people.

He expressed concern about bandits controlling the Borgu forest and called for government intervention to tackle insecurity in his domain.

Also, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s response to the incident, expressing confidence that the children will be rescued and that banditry will be brought to an end.
