Bandits have reportedly killed a resident and abducted several others in separate attacks in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, despite a peace deal earlier reached between local stakeholders and armed groups operating in the area before Ramadan.

The development was disclosed in a post shared on Friday by security analyst and crisis journalist, Bakatsine, via his X handle.

According to the report, the first incident occurred around midnight in Gangaren Mangwarori area of Kankara town, where the attackers reportedly killed a resident identified as Malam Surajo and abducted an elderly woman known as Gwamma.

In another attack around 6 a.m. on Friday morning, the gunmen reportedly invaded Marabar Gurbi community within the same local government area and abducted several residents.

Among those reportedly abducted was the community’s second Imam (Na’ibi), Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, who was said to be on his way to the mosque for the Subhi (Fajr) prayer after Sahoor when the attackers struck.

The incidents have raised fresh concerns among residents, coming despite a peace agreement reportedly reached between community stakeholders and bandit groups ahead of the Ramadan period.

Residents said the latest attacks have heightened fears in the area, with calls for stronger security measures to prevent further violence.
