Barau urges security agencies to halt bandit incursions in Kano

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin on Sunday appealed to security agencies to immediately intensify and expand their operations in Kano State following fresh bandit attacks reported in the Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas.

The call comes amid renewed pressure on security forces across the North, where communities in neighboring Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, and Niger states have faced repeated assaults by armed groups and insurgents fleeing intensified military operations.

The military has in recent weeks escalated its offensive under President Bola Tinubu’s National Security Emergency Plan, which ordered coordinated air and ground operations to flush out terrorists from their forest enclaves.

Reacting specifically to an alleged attack on Saturday night in Yankamaye village, Tsanyawa LGA, Barau stated that the incursions by criminal elements, many of whom are believed to be fleeing the military crackdown in neighboring states, must be halted immediately.

In a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President condemned the alleged attack, stressing that the safety of Kano residents is non-negotiable.

“This incursion into the area must stop forthwith. The security of our people’s lives and properties is paramount. No stone will be left unturned in achieving this,” he said.

Barau urged security operatives to sustain the momentum created by the ongoing nationwide security emergency and ensure that bandits do not find safe havens in the state’s border communities.
