Bauchi PRP condemns rising banditry, attacks in Bauchi, demands immediate govt response

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has strongly condemned what it describes as the escalating wave of banditry and insecurity in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, particularly in Gwana, Duguri, and adjoining communities, and has called on the state government to take immediate action to stop the violence.

In a statement issued by the PRP Chairman in the state, Hon. Abbas Abba, the party said it was profoundly concerned and deeply saddened by the recurring violence in the council as the areas have become increasingly volatile in recent weeks, largely due to their proximity to expansive forests bordering neighbouring states.

“We unequivocally condemn the heinous attacks that have resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including the recent tragic killing of four residents during an armed assault in Kafi village, and the injuries sustained by many others,” the party said in the statement.

“These acts of violence, including abductions, armed clashes, and cattle rustling, pose a grave threat to the peace and security of our communities and undermine the developmental progress of Bauchi State.

“While we acknowledge and appreciate the swift response of security agencies in containing these criminal acts, it is painfully evident that the menace is intensifying and demands a more decisive, sustained approach. The recent incidents underscore the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to restore peace and stability to our communities.”

The party however, made some recommendations and demands from the government which include:

Enhanced Security Measures:

“We urge the Bauchi State Government and the Federal Government to increase security deployment in the affected areas by deploying well-equipped and adequately trained security personnel.

“This should be complemented by intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance, and patrols to preempt criminal activities and facilitate swift responses. Visible security presence will serve as a strong deterrent and help restore confidence among residents.

Addressing Root Causes:

“Tackling the underlying issues that foster criminality—such as poverty, lack of education, and youth unemployment—is crucial. These factors often create breeding grounds for criminal elements, and addressing them will help dismantle the cycle of violence.

Community Engagement:

“Strengthening collaboration between security agencies and local communities is vital. Active community participation and timely intelligence sharing can significantly enhance the effectiveness of security operations and foster trust.

Swift Justice:

“Ensuring that perpetrators of violence, abductions, and cattle rustling are promptly apprehended and prosecuted is essential for justice and deterrence. A firm commitment to swift and fair justice will reinforce the rule of law.

“The security and safety of our citizens must be the paramount priority for all levels of government. We call on authorities not to allow this menace to spiral further out of control, as it endangers innocent lives and threatens the stability of our beloved state.

“PRP remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and sustainable development in Bauchi State. We call on all stakeholders—community leaders, residents, and security agencies—to remain vigilant, resilient, and united in overcoming these challenges.”
