The Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, has announced a planned one-month electricity outage that will affect several communities across Edo State.
In a statement released on Thursday, the utility company said the disruption is due to scheduled maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the 330kV Benin/Ajaokuta Line 2 at the Ihovbor Transmission Station.
According to BEDC, the blackout will commence on February 27, 2026, and continue until March 31, 2026.
The feeders impacted by the maintenance include the Egba, Oluku, UNIBEN, and Ihovbor 33kV lines. As a result, areas expected to experience power interruptions include UNIBEN and its surrounding communities, Ugbowo, Oluku, Upper Sakponba, Ihovbor, Egba, and neighbouring locations.
While the Disco apologised to Nigerians, it explained that the maintenance is aimed at strengthening transmission capacity, improving electricity supply to the national grid, and enhancing overall service reliability.
DAILY POST reports that the outage comes at a time when Nigeria’s power sector continues to grapple with persistent challenges, including reduced generation caused by gas supply shortages and seasonal constraints.
