The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Lawmakers commended Doro’s professional pedigree and leadership record, expressing confidence in his capacity to strengthen governance within his assigned portfolio.

During the session, the Plateau-born technocrat, now the third minister from the state in the current administration, pledged to ensure fairness, accountability, and inclusivity in Nigeria’s humanitarian efforts.

“I will build a humanitarian system that is inclusive and anchored on impartiality and independence,” Doro told the Senate.

Satisfied with his presentation and qualifications, the lawmakers unanimously asked him to “take a bow and go,” thereby confirming his nomination without objection.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier requested Doro’s confirmation in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The request was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and immediately referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.

Doro’s nomination follows the elevation of his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was recently appointed National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Doro brings over two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership across Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

“He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with extensive NHS experience in urgent care, walk-in centres, general practice, and hospital environments,” Onanuga stated.

With the Senate’s confirmation, Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at the next meeting.
