Boko Haram terrorists kill army officer, 17 soldiers in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed a senior army officer and 17 soldiers at a military base in Borno State.

The military men were killed in an overnight attack at a base in Benisheikh, about 75 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The chairman of Kaga local government area of the state, Zannah Lawan Ajimi, confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday in Maiduguri.

This was the second killing of a high-ranking officer in five months.

“Unfortunately, the brigade commander, Brigadier General O.O. Braimah, lost his life,” he stated.

Borno State is the hotbed of Boko Haram insurgency with about  10,000 people killed and more than two million displaced by the insurgency since 2011.
