Vice President Kashim Shettima said on Thursday late former President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with commitment that must not be allowed to fade.

He spoke at a special prayer session held in Daura, Katsina State, to mark the third day of Buhari’s death.

The former President died in a London hospital on Sunday.

The event, which took place at the late President’s residence, attracted thousands of mourners from across the country who gathered to offer prayers for the repose of his soul.

In his remark, Shettima described Buhari’s death as “the fall of a great wall.”

He said: “I thank Governor Dikko Radda for his selfless services and Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno for his unwavering support from London till now.”

The Vice President also disclosed that following the prayer session, officials would proceed to Abuja for the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to honour the late Nigerian leader.

“We will continue receiving foreign diplomats, delegates, and former colleagues who will be arriving to express their condolences.

“Buhari served this country with commitment, and we must not let that vision fade,” he added.

Special prayers were led by different scholars, including the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali-Pantami, who described Buhari’s death as a monumental loss that should not be forgotten in just three days.

“His life and service to the nation deserved continuous remembrance and sincere prayers from all of us.

“We should continue to remember him in our daily prayers asking the Almighty Allah to have mercy on him, forgive his shortcomings, lighten his grave, protect him from the punishment of the grave, and admit him into His eternal mercy and Paradise,” Pantami prayed

Other religious figures who offered prayers included Sheikh Muhammad Jingir, Prof. Ibrahim Makari, Chief Imam of Katsina Sheikh Al-Mustapha Gambo, Catholic Bishop of Katsina Gerald Musa, Sheikh Naziru Kofar-Baru Daura, and Malam Hassan Daura.

In his remarks, Radda expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support since Buhari’s death.

“We appreciate President Tinubu for allowing 25 ministers to stand with us during this difficult period and for declaring a public holiday in honour of the late Muhammadu Buhari.

“We will remain in Daura to receive those who continue to come and offer their prayers and condolences to the people of Katsina State,” the governor stated.

Other prominent persons at the prayers were the former President of Benin Republic, Boni Yayi, former Vice President Namadi Sambo and members of the National Assembly, among others.
