The Catholic Diocese of Umuahia has advised Governor Alex Otti of Abia State to maintain the clean environment he initiated in the state by sustaining his war against garbage and other forms of environmental degradation.
The Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Bishop Michael Kalu Ukpong, made the call on Monday when his diocese handed over two street sweeping vehicles to the Abia State Government.
The Catholic Bishop, who described a clean environment as important to the health of the people, said that the street sweeping vehicles would support the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) in keeping Umuahia and other parts of the state cleaner.
He noted that his church would always support every government policy that improves the health and general environmental condition of Abia people, as initiated by Governor Otti.
Receiving the vehicles, the Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia Zone, Ambrose, said that his agency has received more boost in carrying out its responsibilities.
He thanked the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia for supporting the Abia State Government in the crusade for a clean environment.
The ASEPA Deputy General Manager assured Abia residents that the equipment from the Catholic Church would be utilised in extending services to hard-to-reach communities.
