Club World Cup: Chelsea suffer fresh major blow ahead of Fluminense clash

Chelsea have suffered a fresh setback ahead of their Club World Cup semi-final clash with Fluminense on Tuesday.

This follows confirmation from Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, during his pre-match press conference, that midfielder Romeo Lavia will miss the tie due to a muscle injury.

The Belgian sustained the injury during Chelsea’s victory over Benfica in the Round of 16 and consequently missed their quarter-final triumph against Palmeiras.

Addressing the media, Maresca said the 21-year-old has not yet rejoined full training with the squad.

The Italian stated: “Romeo is training already but is unfortunately not training with us so is not ready for tomorrow.”

The winner of the semi-final encounter between Chelsea and Fluminense will progress to the final.
