Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, has disclosed that Abia lawmaker, Mr. Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr. (PDP Obingwa West constituency) provided funds to support financial needs of legislators in the House.
According to Emeruwa, the PDP lawmaker was usually compassionate about the situation of the Abia Legislators which prompted him to provide money for the Abia lawmakers.
He made the disclosure on Saturday at Mgboko Umuanunu Ward 3 Obingwa LGA of Abia State.
“Did you people know that Erondu used to provide us with money in the House of Assembly?
“He would look at us and become compassionate and then he would give us money”, the Abia Speaker said in Igbo language.
Emeruwa, who was standing on the podium with some members of Abia State House of Assembly while addressing the large crowd, recalled the difficulties the legislators initially faced in the past.
The utterance of the Speaker has triggered mixed interpretation in Abia State politics, with members of the opposition claiming that the lawmakers were not properly funded by the executive arm of Abia government.
But supporters of the Speaker are downplaying his revelations, saying that he only cracked a joke.
Meanwhile, during the same event, former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu called on the leaders in the Nigerian society to deploy public funds under their care to tackle hunger among the people.
