The Kano State High Court on Monday adjourned the trial of former Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and seven others, over alleged misappropriation and diversion of public funds running into billions of naira, to November 26, 2025.
The Kano State Government had filed an 11-count charge against Ganduje, his wife Hafsat Umar, and six others, accusing them of bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds.
The other defendants are Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.
Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu adjourned the case following the inability of the defendants to file and serve their pending applications.
The judge directed all parties to ensure that their motions and responses were properly filed and served before the next adjourned date.
Earlier, counsel to the state government, Mr. Adeola Adedipe (SAN), informed the court that the prosecution was ready to commence trial, noting that witnesses were already in court to testify.
Adedipe urged the court to dismiss the defence’s applications and allow proceedings to move forward.
However, counsel to Ganduje, his wife, and son, Mrs. Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, informed the court that they had filed a further affidavit dated and filed July 17, 2025, but were not ready to proceed.
“My Lord, we are not ready. We served the parties, but service has not been effected. We seek an adjourned date,” she said.

Counsel to the 3rd and 7th defendants, Chief M. N. Duru (SAN), also informed the court that they had filed a motion on further affidavit dated May 21, 2025, and likewise sought an adjournment.
Similarly, counsel to the 5th defendant, Mr. Sunusi Musa (SAN), stated that they had filed an application for a stay of proceedings before the Court of Appeal, and were therefore not ready to continue.
In the same vein, counsel to the 6th defendant, Mr. Abubakar Ahmad, said they had filed a notice of preliminary objection, while counsel to the 8th defendant, Mr. Abdulrazaq A. Ahmed, explained that the case was only for mention since the earlier hearing date had already been served.
Following the submissions of all parties, Justice Adamu-Aliyu adjourned the matter to November 26, 2025, for further hearing.
